Writers And Poets

Who is Colinda Alridge?

Colinda Alridge is a newly up and coming writer of poetry coming straight out of Queens,NY.

She started writing a collection of her poetry at a young age all for the love of reading and writing poetry. One might call her a true natural poet with many skills with a passion for writing, networking, and promotions while putting people on the map to success.

Colinda Alridge was born and raised in Brooklyn, Ny but resides out in the St.Albans section of Queens, NY. Her parents are from Kingston Jamaica and Orangeburg South Carolina.

By the age of 4, she enrolled in dancing school then moved to Queens,NY where she continued with dancing.

She joined the workforce at age 16 working part time for the most popular retail department store Alexanders, The Hallmark Card Shop and then the Department of transportation.

By the age of 17 she began working full time for the department of transportation. Her enjoyment was mainly meeting different cultures of people by learning and understanding others. Her hobbies are writing, reading, watching comedy, drama, action, and romance films. She also enjoys helping others regardless if it is just by listening to them or just  helping out any which way she can. Colinda also likes sports, music of any kind, doing crossword puzzles, and also suppporting her friends and family.

She currently wrote her first poetry book called “Emotions” that’s based on emotions, everyday life challenges and experiences that we all go through because some are harder than others. As she says “What did not break me, made me stronger.”

Her poems are filled with lots of love, pain, and determination within ones lives. She officially started writing poems on August 29, 1989 where this was the day that she put her pen to paper just by writing what and how she felt and at that time it was a very scary and troubling time for her because she lost her friends and her sister and to her, losing her sister was like losing her twin whom had taught her little about life and her sister was the reason and inspiration and still is.

For her poetry, she quotes: I’m not the one to speak alot unless I’ve had enough of whatever is going on at that time, so she just writes.

At this moment Ms.Alridge is in the process of writing another book called “Emotions 2″      as well as a number of other poetry books that are in the making. She hopes everyone enjoys reading because her first book “Emotions” was written about her thoughts and whatever else was in her heart. So she’s pretty sure it will touch alot of people.

In the next five years and the rest of the years to come by, she sees herself still writing and would like to encourage everyone not to give up their dreams or anything that is positive that would help you or someone else. So always keep god in your heart if you get lost or confused, just call on him to help you find a way.

There’s no telling what’s next for Colinda Alridge or where she’s going on her journey of writing.

Interested in purchasing “Emotions” which is a collection of poetry by Colinda Alridge, you can buy it at www.rosedogbookstore.com or wherever books are sold online and is also available for download as an e-book in adobe acrobat and pdf form.

I like the fact they have classes for different types of dance technique/style rather than just “streetdance”. Their site info makes them look quite good.

IMO avoid the “Woman’s name School of Dance” type places that teach ballroom, ballet, jazz, street etc., or at least be very careful. I can’t stand what many UK dance schools call street dance. Line dancing in lurid colour spandex.

You could always get on a train and go to Pineapple in Covent Garden.

It’s what I’d do if I still lived in that area.

Check out evening classes. Many areas have street dance classes – cheap!
